Chandigarh, October 20, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday assured justice to the family of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, who was allegedly murdered in Mansa for raising his voice against drugs. Shah announced that a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team would reach the family’s residence by noon on Wednesday to begin investigating the case.

During his visit to Mansa, Shah met Jhota’s father, Bhim Singh, and other family members. The meeting lasted around 20 minutes, during which the Home Minister expressed his condolences and assured the bereaved family that justice would be delivered.

The announcement came during Shah’s day-long visit to Punjab, which included meetings with the families of three people whose deaths were allegedly linked to the drug menace. It was his second visit to the state in 20 days.

Shah arrived at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar in the morning before travelling to Gurdaspur, Sangrur and Mansa. During the visit, he also criticised the state government on social media, alleging that the drug trade in Punjab had spiralled out of control.

In Toor Banjara village in Sangrur district, Shah met the family of Gulzar Singh, who was allegedly driven to suicide for raising his voice against the trade in chitta, a term commonly used for narcotic drugs. He expressed condolences to the family.

Earlier, in Mari Pannu village in Gurdaspur district, Shah met the family of Vikramjit Singh, who was allegedly murdered by drug traffickers in recent days. The meeting lasted around 15 minutes, and the family submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister.

State BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon, former state president Ashwani Sharma, Vijay Sampla and Fatehjang Bajwa were also present. Shah assured the family that the Central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party stood firmly with them and that a decisive fight would be waged against drugs.

Responding to Shah’s visit, former state BJP chief Sunil Jakhar wrote on X that the visit would prove to be a turning point in Punjab’s political landscape, adding that the Home Minister’s concern had given Punjabis a ray of hope.

Meanwhile, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema criticised the Centre and Shah, questioning their failure to take decisive action against pharmaceutical drug manufacturers operating in BJP- and Congress-ruled states despite repeated appeals from Punjab.

Cheema said the state government was taking stringent action against drug traffickers but accused the Centre of ignoring the sources supplying synthetic and pharmaceutical drugs to Punjab.

“The main sources of synthetic and pharmaceutical drugs flooding Punjab are in states governed by the BJP and Congress, yet the Central government has failed to take decisive action against those manufacturing and supplying these substances,” Cheema said, adding that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann would continue its fight against drugs without allowing political considerations or administrative obstacles to weaken its resolve.

Ahead of Shah’s visit, the Aam Aadmi Party government had also announced that Jhota’s case would be handed over to the CBI in response to the family’s demand.
