Youth Akali Dal Punar Surjit president Gurjit Singh Talwandi has demanded an immediate official assessment of crop damage caused by recent hailstorms and severe weather in Sri Muktsar Sahib and full compensation for affected farmers.

In a written press statement, Talwandi said that, following the directions of party president Giani Harpreet Singh, a Youth Akali Dal delegation visited rain- and hailstorm-affected villages in the district to assess the damage suffered by farmers.

The delegation, led by Talwandi, included Navininder Singh Longowal, Amarinder Singh ‘Bunny’ Brar and their associates. The team visited Dhigana, Rupana, Phulewala, Dabra and Bhangchari villages to assess the impact of the adverse weather on crops.

During the visit, Talwandi spoke over the phone with the Deputy Commissioner of Muktsar Sahib, urging the administration to conduct an immediate official crop damage assessment, known as girdawari, and ensure that farmers receive appropriate compensation for their damaged crops.

Talwandi said the hailstorm had undone the hard work of farmers and pushed many families towards a livelihood crisis. Expressing solidarity with those affected, he assured them of all possible assistance.

He stressed that farmers facing losses due to the natural disaster urgently needed government support and financial relief. He urged the government to complete the damage assessment without delay and provide full compensation to eligible farmers.

The press statement was issued by Tajinder Singh Pannu, media in-charge.
