Jammu, October 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered an espionage case against the wife of a senior Army officer, alleging that she shared sensitive information with suspected foreign intelligence operatives who allegedly approached her while posing as academicians and digital content creators.
An FIR (No. 290/2026) was registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station in Jammu under Sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and Sections 152 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), an official source said on Sunday. The accused is reportedly a resident of Telangana.
According to the source, the woman allegedly shared sensitive information, documents, photographs and electronic data through encrypted communication channels with individuals suspected of having links to foreign intelligence agencies.
Investigators are examining how the alleged foreign contacts established communication with her. The woman was allegedly encouraged to write long-form articles on subjects including defence, geopolitics and the environment under the guise of academic and digital content assignments.
The FIR reportedly refers to China as well as other countries whose suspected intelligence operatives allegedly established contact with the woman. Police were alerted to the suspicious communications by the intelligence wing of an agency, the source said.
Investigators are examining digital devices and the financial trail of suspected transactions. Forensic analysis of electronic gadgets, including mobile phones, may also be undertaken as part of the probe.
Section 152 of the BNS deals with acts endangering the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India. Section 3 of the Official Secrets Act provides for punishment of up to 14 years in certain espionage-related cases, while wrongful communication of protected information under the Act can attract imprisonment of up to three years.
The allegations are under investigation, and the accused’s guilt will be determined by a court.
