Actor Priyanka Chopra has wished her Varanasi co-star Prithviraj Sukumaran on his birthday, addressing him by the name of his character, Kumbha, in director S.S. Rajamouli’s upcoming film.
Priyanka shared the birthday greeting on her Instagram Stories by resharing a post from the film’s makers. “Happy Birthday Kumbha,” she wrote, adding a heart-hands emoji and tagging Prithviraj.
Mahesh Babu, who plays the lead role in the film, also extended his wishes to the actor. In a post on his official social media handle, he wished Prithviraj a happy birthday and expressed hope that the year would bring him love, happiness and wonderful moments.
The makers of Varanasi also celebrated the occasion with a post describing Kumbha as “the most complex mind” in the film.
Rajamouli joined the birthday wishes on X, writing that he did not want to awaken the Kumbha within Prithviraj on his special day. He referred to the character as someone destined to make his mark on the world.
The filmmaker had unveiled Prithviraj’s first look as Kumbha in November. Recalling the experience of filming the character’s first shot, Rajamouli praised the actor’s ability to portray the sinister, ruthless and powerful antagonist, describing the performance as creatively satisfying.
Produced by Sri Durga Arts and Showing Business, Varanasi follows Rudhra, played by Mahesh Babu, on an action-packed journey to protect the city of Varanasi amid the impending arrival of an asteroid.
The film’s music is composed by M.M. Keeravani and it is scheduled for a theatrical release on April 7, 2027.
