Actor Avtar Gill paid tribute to late actress Smita Patil on her birth anniversary, remembering not only their professional association across five films but also the warm friendship they shared away from the screen.
Taking to Instagram, Gill described Patil as an extraordinary talent and a remarkable performer, while highlighting the kindness and warmth that he said defined her as a person.
“Remembering the late, great Smita Patil on her birth anniversary. An extraordinary talent, a remarkable performer, and, beyond all that, a truly beautiful human being,” Gill wrote.
Recalling their work together, the actor said he had the privilege of sharing the screen with Patil in five films — “Waaris”, “Ghulami”, “Thikana”, “Hum Farishte Nahin” and “Raahi”.
Gill said his memories of Patil extended beyond their professional collaborations, as he was also fortunate to know her personally and develop a close friendship with her.
“What I remember most fondly is her kindness, her warmth, and the genuine care she had for the people around her. She possessed a rare grace that went far beyond her immense talent and a humanity that made her truly special,” he said.
Reflecting on Patil’s enduring legacy, Gill noted that some personalities are remembered not only for their body of work but also for the affection and lasting impression they leave on those who knew them.
“She is remembered with admiration by generations of admirers, and with deep affection by those of us who were fortunate enough to call her a friend,” he wrote.
Concluding his tribute, Gill said, “Happy birthday, Smita. You are fondly remembered, deeply missed, and never forgotten.”
