Pop star Pink has marked 25 years of her hit song ‘Get the Party Started’, thanking fans for continuing to sing along to the track since its release in 2001.
The singer took to Instagram to share a series of videos featuring live performances of the song alongside clips from its original music video. Reflecting on the milestone, she expressed gratitude to fans for keeping the song alive across generations.
“Twenty-effing-five years. Can you believe it? You’ve been screaming this song louder than me since 2001, and I’ll never get sick of it. Thank you for showing up to this party every single time,” Pink wrote.
‘Get the Party Started’ was released as the lead single from her second studio album, ‘Missundaztood’. Written by Linda Perry, the track was initially offered to Madonna, who turned it down. Pink later recorded the song as part of her collaboration with Perry.
The single became an international hit, reaching the top 10 in several countries and topping charts in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Romania, Spain and Wallonia.
The song also helped establish Pink’s transition towards pop rock. ‘Missundaztood’ went on to sell more than 13 million copies worldwide and produced other successful singles, including ‘Don’t Let Me Get Me’ and ‘Just Like a Pill’.
Pink first gained recognition with her debut album, ‘Can’t Take Me Home’, which received double-platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. Her profile rose further in 2001 with ‘Lady Marmalade’, her collaboration with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim and Mýa for the soundtrack of ‘Moulin Rouge!’. The song earned her first Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
She subsequently delivered several major hits, including ‘Who Knew’, ‘U + Ur Hand’, ‘So What’, ‘Raise Your Glass’ and ‘Just Give Me a Reason’. Her album ‘The Truth About Love’ became her first to top the US Billboard 200 chart.
Known for her powerful vocals and acrobatic stage performances, Pink released her ninth studio album, ‘Trustfall’, in 2023. The album peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200.
