New Delhi, October 11, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

An Executive Magistrate on Sunday ordered the release of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who had been placed under preventive arrest by Delhi Police, according to the party’s head of legal affairs, Ratna Singh.

Announcing the development in a post on X, Singh wrote, “Executive Magistrate court releases Abhijeet, Saurav and Ashutosh.”

Earlier, Singh had said the three leaders would be produced before the Executive Magistrate at Delhi Cantt Police Station at 9 a.m. on Sunday. She added that she would be present at the police station alongside other lawyers representing the party.

The leaders were detained on Saturday at Indira Gandhi International Airport after arriving in the national capital to participate in a planned protest against the Election Commission of India (ECI). The CJP had called for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Meanwhile, Singh denied reports circulating on social media that the CJP had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the release of party leaders and other members detained ahead of the proposed demonstration.

Clarifying the party’s position, she said the petition being circulated was not filed by the CJP and that the party was not approaching the Supreme Court over the detentions.

“Pls note – This petition is not filed by @Cockroachisback. We are not approaching the Supreme Court, and no habeas corpus petition has been approved by the CJP’s legal team,” Singh wrote on X.

She also tagged a petition shared by a legal news platform, reiterating that the document had not been filed by the party.

The petition cited Article 32 of the Constitution and sought a writ, including habeas corpus, directing authorities to produce before the Supreme Court people allegedly detained in connection with the CJP’s proposed October 10 demonstration at Jantar Mantar and to release those whose custody was not authorised by law.

Separately, CJP leader Ajinkya Shinde announced that party protesters would march towards Jantar Mantar again on Sunday, saying they would continue their agitation until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigned.
