Chandigarh, October 10, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Chandigarh Press Club has strongly condemned Haryana Police’s reported action against three senior journalists associated with Living India News and demanded their immediate release unless their continued custody is legally justified.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Press Club expressed concern over the reported arrest and detention of Living India editors Sudesh Nain Mor and Saurabh Upadhyay, along with the channel’s Editor-in-Chief, Atul Agrawal.

According to the statement, Sudesh Nain Mor, a member of the Chandigarh Press Club, and Saurabh Upadhyay were taken away by Haryana Police personnel from the channel’s office in Chandigarh. The Club said reports had also emerged that Atul Agrawal was taken from his residence in Noida.

The statement did not specify whether formal arrests had been recorded, the legal provisions invoked or the grounds communicated to the journalists.

Police Action Raises Press Freedom Concerns

The Press Club said Living India News had been airing a series of investigative reports highlighting the availability of drugs and the extent of the drug menace in Haryana.

It expressed concern over police action involving the channel’s editorial team against this backdrop, observing that journalists must be able to investigate matters of public interest without fear of intimidation or reprisals.

The organisation maintained that independent journalism plays an essential role in exposing uncomfortable realities and ensuring accountability among those holding public office.

Club Demands Disclosure of Legal Grounds

The Chandigarh Press Club called upon Haryana Police to explain the circumstances in which the journalists were taken into custody and clarify their legal status.

It stressed that any allegations against them must be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law and that all applicable procedural safeguards and legal rights must be respected.

The Club demanded that the authorities disclose the legal grounds for any arrest or continued detention and ensure that police powers are not exercised in a manner that undermines press freedom.

It further called for the journalists’ immediate release unless there was a lawful basis for keeping them in custody.

Expressing solidarity with the journalists, the Club reiterated that a free and independent press was indispensable to a democratic society, particularly when reporting on sensitive issues such as drug trafficking and substance abuse.

The statement was issued by Chandigarh Press Club President Saurabh Duggal and Secretary General Rajesh Dhall.

The Club demanded transparency, accountability and respect for press freedom while seeking an explanation from Haryana Police regarding the action against the Living India editorial team.
