Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has opened up about his decision to take a break from touring, saying the move is aimed at giving him time to focus on his physical health while continuing to work closer to home.
Appearing on Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi’s show Double Date alongside former cricketer Irfan Pathan, Zakir said he wants to continue performing well into his later years and believes he needs to address the toll his work has taken on his health.
“I love my work very much and I want to be able to do talks and shows like Javed Sahab when I am 75. If I want to continue doing this work until I am 75, I have damaged my health over the last 10 years, and to fix it, I will have to take a break for the next two years,” he said.
Zakir also spoke about his mental and emotional well-being, saying, “My mental health and emotional health is at its peak, which is why my physical health is not good.”
Clarifying what he meant by taking a break, the comedian said he was not stepping away from work altogether.
“My break is only from touring to other cities, I will travel within the city,” he said.
During the episode, Zakir and Pathan discussed their relationship with cricket, personal experiences and aspects of their lives that they do not often discuss publicly.
Zakir, who has more than five million YouTube subscribers, is among India’s prominent stand-up comedians. He gained wider attention with his appearance on AIB Diwas in 2016.
Meanwhile, Neha Dhupia is set to return as a gang leader on Roadies Rebirth.
