Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is scheduled to visit India at the end of October with a delegation of nearly 100 leading Polish companies, as Warsaw seeks to expand economic and trade ties with New Delhi.
Poland’s Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański told IANS in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee that Tusk is expected to visit both New Delhi and Bengaluru, with economic cooperation a major focus.
Domański said he discussed the planned visit with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal during a bilateral meeting.
“The Prime Minister is planning to visit not only Delhi, but also Bangalore. And this mission will have a very strong economic background and will have strong emphasis on economic issues,” he said.
The minister said Poland intended to bring close to 100 leading companies as part of the visit, adding that bilateral economic relations had significant room for expansion.
“India, a giant, a leader in Asia, well, it’s a country that we really like to have closer trade relations,” Domański said.
Poland sees opportunities for greater cooperation with India in defence, space, machinery and food processing. Domański said Warsaw had decided to double investments in its space industry and planned to bring Polish space companies to India. He also highlighted opportunities in food processing, including poultry exports.
For Indian businesses, he identified clean energy, information technology and industrial sectors as areas with investment potential in Poland. He also described Poland as a possible base for Indian companies seeking access to the wider European Union market.
The upcoming visit is expected to build on the Strategic Partnership established between India and Poland during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Warsaw in August 2024. The two countries adopted a five-year Action Plan for 2024-2028 covering areas including defence, trade, agriculture, energy, green technologies, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals and mining.
Poland’s official investment agency has separately announced a business mission to India on October 22-23 as an economic component of Tusk’s planned visit, with participating sectors including IT, space, machinery, food, agriculture and high technology.
Tusk last visited India as Prime Minister in 2010. Modi invited him to visit India during his 2024 trip to Poland.
