Bangladesh have named a 16-member squad for their three-match women’s ODI series against Australia, with regular captain Nigar Sultana Joty set to lead the side on a historic tour.
Spinner Nahida Akter has been appointed vice-captain, while much of the squad comprises players who represented Bangladesh at the Women’s Asia Cup and the Asian Games in Japan earlier this month.
The pace attack will be led by Marufa Akter, with 17-year-old Habiba Islam Pinky also included among the fast-bowling options.
The squad combines experience with emerging talent. Experienced batter Farzana Haque returns to the ODI setup, while Murshida Khatun has earned a recall after last representing Bangladesh in January 2025.
Young all-rounder Disha Biswas, who has recently featured for Bangladesh Emerging, has also been rewarded with a place in the senior squad.
There are several changes from the group that travelled to the Asian Games, with top-order batter Juairiya Ferdous, experienced spinner Fahima Khatun and all-rounder Shorna Akter among the notable omissions.
The three-match series will be played at Allan Border Field in Brisbane, with the opening ODI scheduled for October 9. The second match will be played on October 11, followed by the final ODI on October 14.
The series is also important in the ICC Women’s Championship, with Bangladesh currently eighth in the standings. The tour will give the visitors an opportunity to adapt to unfamiliar conditions while facing one of the leading teams in women’s cricket.
