The Delhi government’s Transport Department has received an Honourable Mention at the World Safety 2026 Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, for its road safety campaign, ‘Helmet Wearing–Consequences’.
The recognition was presented in the Ultra Short Video category at the Safety Conference 2026. The International Safety Media Awards recognised the campaign’s communication initiative aimed at highlighting the importance of helmet use among two-wheeler riders and communicating the consequences of riding without a properly worn helmet.
The Transport Department launched the campaign in August 2025 in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and other dignitaries.
The campaign sought to reinforce the message that wearing a helmet is not merely a matter of complying with traffic regulations but an important road-safety measure for protecting both riders and pillion passengers.
According to the department, the International Safety Conference recognises safety media initiatives from across the world. An international jury comprising injury-prevention and media specialists assesses entries on parameters including production quality, clarity of messaging, innovation and creativity, along with evaluation methods and outcomes.
The World Safety Conference brings together stakeholders working in road safety and injury prevention from different countries.
At the campaign’s launch, Gupta emphasised that road safety is a collective social responsibility and urged citizens to follow traffic rules and incorporate safe road behaviour into their daily lives.
The campaign also encouraged young people to take a pledge to wear helmets and motivate others to follow road-safety norms.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the international recognition would encourage continued efforts in road-safety communication and public awareness.
He said initiatives such as ‘Helmet Wearing–Consequences’ reinforce responsible road behaviour while complementing enforcement and other road-safety measures.
Singh added that the recognition at an international safety forum would provide further impetus to the department’s efforts to promote responsible road-user behaviour and strengthen road-safety awareness across Delhi.
