Around eight luxury cars were destroyed after a massive fire broke out at a Mercedes workshop in Balaji Market in Jaipur late Tuesday night. Expensive spare parts, accessories and other material were also damaged in the blaze.
Thick smoke from the fire could be seen from nearly five kilometres away, triggering a major emergency response in the area under the jurisdiction of Sanganer Sadar police station.
Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the workshop after the blaze was reported and began efforts to bring the flames under control. Power supply to the surrounding area was also shut off as a precaution to prevent the fire from spreading.
More than 50 vehicles, including new and old cars, were parked inside the premises when the fire broke out. The intense flames engulfed around eight vehicles before firefighters managed to contain the blaze.
Several other vehicles were evacuated from the workshop during the operation by firefighters and police personnel, preventing further damage.
Fire Officer Usha Sharma said around 10 fire tenders were deployed to fight the blaze. The vehicles reportedly made more than two dozen trips while firefighters battled the flames for nearly two hours.
Sanganer Sadar SHO Kamlesh Sharma said several vehicles were safely moved out of the premises during the firefighting operation.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
A preliminary investigation has indicated that a short circuit may have triggered the fire. However, the exact cause has not yet been formally established. Police and fire officials are assessing the extent of damage to the vehicles, spare parts and other material inside the workshop.
In a separate incident earlier on Wednesday, a fire broke out at a mall near Narayan Singh Circle in Jaipur at around 2 p.m., causing panic among people inside. The mall’s electricity supply was immediately switched off, while two fire tenders reached the spot and brought the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.
