New Delhi, October 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action taken report from the Madhya Pradesh government over allegations that children were involved in former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh’s yatra and made to raise political slogans.

The Commission has directed Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Ashok Barnwal and Director General of Police Kailash Makwana to inquire into the allegations and submit a report within two weeks.

The action follows a complaint alleging that photographs and videos of the incident were shared on Facebook on October 22. The complainant expressed apprehension that children might have been brought to the yatra after being offered money and alleged that their participation in raising political slogans violated child rights and applicable legal provisions.

A bench headed by NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo said the allegations prima facie appeared to indicate violations of children’s rights. The Commission has issued notices to the state government and police chief, initiating proceedings under Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.

The NHRC has specifically asked the state authorities to investigate allegations of monetary exchanges, citing concerns that children may have been induced or exploited for political purposes in return for financial consideration.

It has also directed the authorities to examine whether applicable child-protection laws were violated and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.

Separately, the Commission has asked Electronics and Information Technology Ministry Secretary S. Krishnan to examine the alleged use of photographs and videos featuring the children and submit an action taken report.

The complaint sought an investigation and strict legal action against the organisers and others allegedly responsible for involving children in the yatra and making them raise political slogans.

The directions seek verification of the allegations and do not, by themselves, establish that any violation took place.
