Kochi, October 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Kerala Police have invoked provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against Ebin Paul, the prime accused in the arson attack near the historic Kadavumbhagam Synagogue in Ernakulam, as investigators probe a possible wider conspiracy behind the incident.

Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA, which deal with terrorist acts and conspiracy to commit terrorist acts, have been added to the case following the October 12 attack on a nursery outside the synagogue.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is examining whether Paul acted on instructions from an unidentified person he allegedly referred to as “Boss”. The accused has also mentioned someone named Vikram, whose identity and possible connection with the alleged handler are yet to be established.

Investigators are verifying Paul’s claim that he received instructions through phone calls and digital platforms. Forensic examination of his mobile phones and other electronic devices is expected to help establish the nature of the communications, identify possible associates and determine whether any payments were made in connection with the alleged attacks.

The probe has also expanded to include other arson incidents in Muvattupuzha, including an attempted fire at a locked house and an attack on a used-car showroom. Police are investigating whether these incidents were linked and formed part of a coordinated sequence of attacks.

The SIT has extended its inquiry to Pune, where Paul studied, to examine his background and possible connections. Investigators are also exploring whether any external network influenced or directed his alleged actions.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other central agencies have gathered information about the case. However, the identity of the alleged handler, the motive behind the attack and the extent of any wider conspiracy remain under investigation.

Paul remains in judicial custody, with further questioning expected as forensic findings become available.
