Model Shraddha Dubey, the prime accused in the murder of Shiva Sharma, has reportedly admitted that her boyfriend, Amir, helped her evade the police and enter Nepal while she was on the run, officials said.
During hours of interrogation, Dubey disclosed details of her movements across several cities but remained silent on certain aspects of the case. She has since been sent to jail, while investigators are working to identify people suspected of helping her avoid arrest.
According to officials, Dubey told investigators that she travelled to Kanpur and Agra during her 11-day escape. On October 18, she reportedly attempted to book a room at a hotel in Kanpur but left when staff asked her to produce identification documents, fearing she could be recognised and reported to the police.
She subsequently hired a car and travelled to Nagpur. Investigators suspect she deliberately chose smaller hotels and lounges where identity documents were not required, despite reportedly preferring larger, luxury hotels.
Dubey also travelled to Rae Bareli but could not reach her home. Authorities issued a lookout circular amid concerns that she might flee abroad.
During questioning, she reportedly admitted that Amir had been accompanying her since Lucknow and helped her enter Nepal through Bahraich. Police are likely to include his name in the FIR, and preparations are reportedly underway to announce a reward for information leading to his arrest.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) said investigators were identifying people suspected of assisting Dubey and other accused persons. Police also suspect that individuals remained in contact with her and guided her movements to help her evade arrest.
Dubey was arrested in Nagpur by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and Lucknow Police, officials said on Tuesday.
She had been absconding since October 9, when Sharma allegedly fell from the balcony of an apartment in Lucknow’s Hazratganj area. Initially treated as an accidental fall, the incident became a suspected murder case after Sharma’s family alleged that he had been assaulted and tortured before being thrown from the building.
