Actress Kirron Kher has joined the ongoing social media nostalgia for the 1980s, but with an authentic throwback rather than an AI-generated recreation.
Kirron shared a striking black-and-white photograph from her younger days on social media, making it clear that the picture needed no digital enhancement. Alongside the image, she wrote, “Couldn’t resist sharing this one just as it is. No ChatGPT. No AI. No filters. Just a real picture from the 80s and honestly, it didn’t need anything else.”
She paired the nostalgic photograph with Lata Mangeshkar’s evergreen song “Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh”.
The post comes as 1980s-inspired visuals and nostalgia continue to gain traction across social media, with users increasingly recreating the era through digital tools and artificial intelligence.
Kirron made her acting debut with the Punjabi film Aasra Pyaar Da in 1983 and later appeared in Pestonjee in 1988 before taking a break from films. Her major breakthrough in Hindi cinema came after her return in the 1990s, beginning with Shyam Benegal’s Sardari Begum in 1996.
She subsequently earned acclaim for performances in films including Bariwali, Devdas, Main Hoon Na, Hum Tum, Veer-Zaara, Rang De Basanti, Fanaa, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Singh Is Kinng and Dostana.
Kirron also became a familiar face on television through programmes such as Purushkshetra, Kirron Kher Today and Jagte Raho with Kirron Kher. She later became closely associated with the talent reality show India’s Got Talent, serving as a judge for several seasons from 2009 onwards.
On the personal front, Kirron married businessman Gautam Berry in 1979, and they have a son, actor Sikandar Kher. The couple divorced in 1985. She married actor Anupam Kher the same year, with Anupam becoming a father figure to Sikandar, who later entered the acting profession.
Sikandar made his Hindi film debut with Woodstock Villa in 2008 and has since appeared in films and series, including Aarya.
