New Delhi, September 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Four people rescued from the site of the Delhi building collapse are receiving medical treatment, while one injured person has been discharged after observation, the AIIMS JPN Apex Trauma Centre said in a statement on Monday.

The trauma centre said it received 11 patients following the collapse of the building in Satya Niketan, South-West Delhi, on Sunday. Of these, five were brought dead, while another patient who was initially in critical condition later succumbed to injuries.

Three patients remain admitted and are undergoing treatment, with one having undergone limb surgery. Another patient who sustained minor injuries was discharged after being kept under observation.

The latest medical update takes the death toll to six, while four others sustained injuries, including those still undergoing treatment.

Search and rescue operations continued through the night as teams looked for people who may still be trapped beneath the debris. Several of those feared trapped are believed to be students.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the collapse of the boys’ paying guest accommodation. After inspecting the site, she directed officials to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and ordered an FIR against the building owner.

“Those found responsible for this grave incident will be held fully accountable and dealt with under the strictest provisions of law,” Gupta said.

Police said an FIR has been registered at South Campus police station against alleged owner Hariram and others. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel confirmed the registration of the case.

The building was around 40-50 years old and had a basement and five upper floors. It was being used as a PG accommodation for students, many of whom studied at Delhi University’s South Campus, with rooms for around 40 people.

The collapse occurred at around 1.30 p.m. while repair work was reportedly underway in the basement. Officials have also indicated that heavy rain may have contributed to the incident.

Delhi Police, NDRF, Delhi Fire Service and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority are involved in the ongoing rescue operation.
