No Stone Will Be Left Unturned to Promote Cycling in Punjab: Gurwinder Singh Doomchheri

Rupnagar, September 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

District Cycling Association, Rupnagar President Gurwinder Singh Doomchheri has pledged sustained efforts to promote cycling across Punjab and encourage more youngsters to take up sports, with a special focus on identifying and nurturing sporting talent in rural areas.

He was speaking during the Punjab State MTB Cycling Championship held at Reeth Kheri in Patiala, where he honoured winners in the senior category and congratulated them on their performances.

Rupnagar cyclist Tarandeep Singh secured third position at the state level in the championship. Doomchheri congratulated him and praised his performance, saying such achievements reflect the hard work, discipline and determination of athletes, along with the support of their coaches and families.

He said recognising sportspersons not only acknowledges their efforts but also motivates other youngsters to pursue sports. Cycling, he added, promotes physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle while also contributing to environmental conservation.

Doomchheri said Punjab’s youth have immense potential in cycling and can achieve greater success at national and international levels if provided timely training, proper guidance and adequate competitive opportunities.

He said the District Cycling Association, Rupnagar, under the guidance of the Cycling Association of Punjab, would work to strengthen cycling in the district. Efforts would be made to encourage students and youngsters from schools, colleges and rural areas to take up the sport and identify promising cyclists for further support.

Recalling his father, Shaheed Jathedar Sher Singh Doomchheri, he said his father had always encouraged youngsters to participate in sports and constructive activities. His emphasis on physical fitness, discipline and responsible citizenship continues to inspire him, Doomchheri said.

He added that he would carry forward this vision by making every possible effort to take cycling to new heights in Rupnagar and bring more young people into the sport.

The Cycling Association of Punjab also specially honoured Doomchheri during the championship for his interest and support for cycling. Association office-bearers expressed confidence that his leadership would provide further impetus to cycling in Rupnagar.

Thanking the association for the recognition, Doomchheri said the honour had placed a greater responsibility on him and would motivate him to work with renewed commitment. He said systematic efforts would be undertaken to organise competitions, identify emerging talent and encourage young cyclists.

He also urged youngsters to stay away from drugs and other social evils and channel their energy into sports. A healthy, disciplined and sports-oriented younger generation, he said, is essential for a stronger Punjab.

Among those present were farmer leader and District Property Association President Tejinder Singh Poonia, Cycling Association of Punjab General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, senior association office-bearer Bakhshish Singh, besides cyclists, coaches and spectators.
