Punjab Govt Holds Grand Kirtan Darbar in Adampur to Mark 650th Prakash Purb of Sri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji

Adampur, Jalandhar, September 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab Government organised a grand Kirtan Darbar at Dana Mandi, Adampur, on Sunday to commemorate the 650th Prakash Purb of Sri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji, drawing a large congregation of devotees who immersed themselves in Gurbani Kirtan, Katha and devotional performances.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who addressed the gathering, said the teachings of Sri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji remain deeply relevant in contemporary society as they inspire people to rise above caste and social divisions and uphold equality, social justice, harmony and universal brotherhood.

Cheema said the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was organising a series of programmes across the state to mark the 650th Prakash Purb. He said the government had undertaken initiatives to take the life, philosophy and teachings of Guru Ravidas Ji to people across Punjab.

The Finance Minister said specially designed publicity vans, flagged off by the Chief Minister, were travelling across the state and screening documentaries on Guru Ravidas Ji’s life and teachings in more than 12,000 villages. He also highlighted the plantation of 6.50 lakh saplings across Punjab as part of the celebrations and various school-level programmes.

Another key initiative, he said, was the establishment of the Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Bani Adhiyyan Centre near Dera Sachkhand Ballan on 11 acres of land to promote research, study and wider dissemination of the sacred Bani and philosophy of Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji.

Cheema called upon people to incorporate the Guru’s teachings of humility, compassion, truth, selfless service and universal brotherhood into their daily lives. He said these values could contribute to building a peaceful and progressive society. He also noted that drone shows were adding a new dimension to the celebrations while taking the Guru’s message to wider audiences.

Dera Sachkhand Ballan chief Sant Niranjan Dass Ji attended the Kirtan Darbar as the special guest and blessed the congregation. He emphasised the importance of carrying forward the spiritual and social message of Sri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji. Prominent Sants from different religious organisations were also present.

Punjab State Cooperative Bank Chairman and Adampur Halqa In-charge Pawan Kumar Teenu, who hosted the event, welcomed Cheema and Sant Niranjan Dass Ji. He said he felt fortunate to host such a sacred gathering in his constituency and provide people of Adampur an opportunity to connect with the divine Bani of Satguru Ravidass Ji Maharaj.

Teenu said it was the first time, according to him, that the Prakash Purb of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji had been celebrated by a government on such a grand scale, adding that the occasion would remain memorable for the people.

Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varjeet Walia and Additional Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Bains were among those present.

The congregation witnessed soulful Gurbani Kirtan by prominent Ragis, while Gurbani Katha highlighted the life, teachings and philosophy of Guru Ravidas Ji. Singers Dalwinder Dyalpuri, Kanth Kaler, Sufi singer Kulwinder Kinda and Parvez Alam also performed devotional and musical presentations.
