Akali Dal Waris Punjab De has ruled out any electoral alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with party MLA and senior leader Manpreet Singh Ayali asserting that there was no possibility of such a tie-up under any circumstances.
Speaking to media persons in Sangrur, Ayali described Akali Dal Waris Punjab De as a Panthic political outfit whose commitment, he said, remained with Punjab and the Panth.
“We stand with Punjab and Panth,” Ayali said while categorically rejecting the possibility of joining hands with the BJP.
He went a step further and said his party would not enter into an alliance with any political party based in Delhi.
Ayali was also asked about reports of possible political realignments involving the BJP and other Akali formations ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Responding to questions about Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and SAD Punar Surjit reportedly being in talks with the BJP over a possible alliance, Ayali said those parties were free to take their own decisions.
He, however, made it clear that their choices would have no bearing on the political course adopted by Akali Dal Waris Punjab De.
According to Ayali, his party would have “no truck with the BJP or any party from Delhi”, underlining its intention to maintain an independent political position.
The statement assumes significance amid continuing discussion over possible alliance permutations in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Akali Dal Waris Punjab De is led by Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, who is presently lodged in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam. The party has already projected Amritpal Singh as its chief ministerial candidate for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
