Actor Chunky Pandey has revealed that veteran star Govinda played a major role in inspiring him to pursue acting, while also crediting him for helping him develop his dancing skills.
During an upcoming episode of “India’s Best Dancer Season 5”, Chunky recalled his early days in the film industry and his association with Govinda. He said both actors were launched by producer Pahlaj Nihalani, whose film “Ilzaam” with Govinda went on to become a major hit.
“Main actor bana Govinda ki wajah se… Lekin agar main thoda bahut bhi dancing jaanta hoon, it’s all because of Govinda. Main khud Govinda ka bahut bada fan hoon,” Chunky said, recalling how Govinda influenced his journey.
Praising Govinda’s dancing prowess, Chunky added, “Govinda ke saath dance karna is like boxing with Mike Tyson in the ring.” He joked that performing alongside Govinda automatically earned compliments because the audience’s attention remained fixed on the veteran actor.
Chunky also recalled the popularity of the song “Laal Dupatte Wali” from “Aankhen”. He shared an anecdote about his mother, who had gone to watch his film “Lootere” at Metro cinema. She later told him that when the trailer of “Aankhen” played and the song appeared, members of the audience began throwing money at the screen.
According to Chunky, the incident showed that the song had become hugely popular even before “Aankhen” was released.
Govinda and Chunky Pandey shared screen space in the 1993 blockbuster “Aankhen”, directed by David Dhawan. The action-comedy, featuring Govinda in a double role, became one of the memorable hits of the 1990s. The two also appeared together in “Kaun Rokega Mujhe” (1997), in which Govinda made a special appearance.
