India’s junior women registered their second consecutive victory at the AHF Junior Asia Cup 2026, thrashing Malaysia 11-1 in their second Elite Pool match on Sunday to underline their credentials as defending champions.
After opening their campaign with a 4-1 win over South Korea, India produced an even more dominant attacking display against Malaysia, with seven players finding the net.
India needed only a minute to open the scoring, with Puja Sahoo converting a penalty stroke. Purnima Yadav doubled the lead in the fourth minute before Binima Dhan scored from a penalty corner in the eighth.
Krishna Sharma made it 4-0 in the 14th minute, while Purnima added her second from another penalty corner three minutes later.
India continued to pile on the pressure, with Sukhveer Kaur and Geeta Yadav scoring in the 21st and 28th minutes respectively to give the defending champions a commanding 7-0 lead at half-time.
Malaysia pulled one back through Nur Mohd in the 38th minute, but India quickly regained control. Puja converted her second penalty stroke in the 42nd minute before Sanika Chandrakant Mane scored a minute later.
Geeta added her second goal from a penalty corner in the 53rd minute, and Sanika completed her brace two minutes from the final hooter as India sealed an emphatic 11-1 win.
India’s goals came through a well-rounded attacking effort, comprising four field goals, five penalty-corner conversions and two penalty strokes.
The victory leaves India alone at the top of the Elite Pool with six points from two matches. China and Japan have three points each, while South Korea and Malaysia are yet to register a win.
India will have a rest day on Monday before taking on Japan on September 8.
