Shubhankar Sharma remained inside the top 10 at the halfway stage of the Omega European Masters despite a late stumble that saw him drop three bogeys over his final six holes at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club.
The 30-year-old Indian, a two-time winner on the DP World Tour, carded a two-under 68 in the second round. He made three birdies on each side of the course but also conceded four bogeys, with three coming on the back nine.
Sharma had opened the tournament with a six-under 64 and stands at eight-under after 36 holes, tied for eighth with two rounds remaining.
The tournament is particularly important for Sharma as he looks to climb from 179th in the rankings into the top 100 and secure his DP World Tour card for 2027.
India’s other competitor, Yuvraj Sandhu, produced one of the day’s notable improvements, shooting a five-under 65 after opening with a 77. His second-round score represented a 12-shot improvement, but it was not enough to prevent him from missing the cut.
Defending champion Thriston Lawrence of South Africa surged to the top of the leaderboard with a flawless seven-birdie 63. Starting from the 10th tee, Lawrence waited until the par-three 13th for his first birdie before launching a run of six consecutive birdies around the turn. He finished at 13-under par, two shots clear of the field.
Lawrence also made a crucial par save at the fifth, holing his fourth shot from a bunker after an unsuccessful attempt with the putter, before closing with a series of pars.
The 29-year-old five-time DP World Tour winner is bidding for a third Omega European Masters title after victories in 2022 and 2025. His triumph last year came by two strokes.
Spain’s Nacho Elvira matched his best score in more than three years with a 62 to move into a tie for second at 11-under alongside Germany’s Jeremy Paul.
Japan’s Keita Nakajima carded a bogey-free 63 to move into outright fourth. Rafa Cabrera Bello, playing with clubs previously belonging to Adam Scott after his own set failed to arrive in Crans-Montana, shares fifth with China’s Ashun Wu and England’s Paul Casey.
