Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Wednesday stopped his official convoy in Thiruvananthapuram after noticing a man collapse on the roadside and personally ensured that he received medical assistance.
Arlekar was travelling from Raj Bhavan to attend an Onam celebration when he spotted a pedestrian, identified as Gireesh, reportedly feeling dizzy before collapsing on the road.
The Governor immediately stopped his vehicle, stepped out and approached the man. He remained at the spot for nearly 15 minutes and directed officials accompanying him to arrange urgent medical assistance.
According to the available information, Gireesh had taken ill after his blood sugar level rose sharply. Raj Bhavan staff brought him water, helped him wash his face and provided basic first aid while arrangements were made for further treatment.
Gireesh’s residence is near the Althara Devi Temple at Vellayambalam, but his family members were unable to reach the spot immediately. Taking note of the situation, Arlekar instructed his officials to arrange transportation so that Gireesh could be taken to hospital without delay.
The arrangements were subsequently completed and Gireesh was taken for medical treatment.
The Governor’s intervention came during an otherwise routine official journey and briefly brought his convoy to a halt on a busy city road. Rather than proceeding with his programme, Arlekar stayed with the ailing man until assistance had been arranged.
The incident offered an unusual roadside glimpse of the Governor responding directly to a citizen in distress and ensuring that he was not left without immediate help.
