Actor Jackie Shroff celebrated the birthdays of veteran actresses Vyjayanthimala and Yogita Bali on Thursday with heartfelt social media posts, paying tribute to their enduring contributions to Indian cinema.
On Vyjayanthimala’s 93rd birthday, Jackie shared a video of himself meeting the legendary actress and seeking her blessings by touching her feet.
In the video, Jackie, dressed casually in a blue shirt and black vest, approaches Vyjayanthimala, who is seen in a green traditional outfit. She smiles warmly, blesses him and exchanges a few words with the actor.
Jackie shared the video with Lata Mangeshkar’s classic song “Ghadi Ghadi Meraa Dil Dhadake” playing in the background.
He also marked actress Yogita Bali’s 74th birthday with a separate post, sharing a throwback photograph of the actress from her younger years. Kishore Kumar’s “Simti Si Sharmai Si” accompanied the post.
Born on August 13, 1933, Vyjayanthimala is regarded as one of the pioneering female superstars of Indian cinema. She began her acting career with the Tamil film “Vaazhkai” in 1949 before making her Hindi debut with “Bahar” in 1951.
She subsequently appeared in several acclaimed films, including “Nagin”, “Devdas”, “Naya Daur”, “Sadhna”, “Madhumati”, “Gunga Jumna”, “Sangam”, “Amrapali”, “Jewel Thief” and “Sunghursh”. Her portrayal of Chandramukhi in Bimal Roy’s “Devdas” and her collaborations with Dilip Kumar remain among the most celebrated chapters of her career.
Yogita Bali, born on August 13, 1952, began her Hindi film career in the early 1970s. She went on to feature in films such as “Parwana”, “Buniyaad”, “Nagin”, “Jaani Dushman”, “Biwi-O-Biwi”, “Khwaab”, “Jaanwar” and “Laila”, among others.
