Iran’s Support for Hezbollah Is a ‘Strategic Mandate’, Says Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei

Tehran, July 26, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei has described Tehran’s support for Lebanon-based Hezbollah as a “strategic mandate,” reaffirming Iran’s commitment to the group in a letter addressed to Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem.

According to Iranian state media, the letter was sent in response to a message from Qassem reaffirming his allegiance to the Iranian leadership. Khamenei praised Hezbollah for remaining steadfast in the face of what he described as Israel’s “savage aggression,” calling the organisation an unyielding force of resistance.

In the letter, Khamenei said that, in keeping with the policy established by the late Supreme Leader Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei, the Islamic Republic regards the defence of what he termed the “oppressed yet powerful mujahideen” as one of its strategic responsibilities.

He also described Hezbollah’s message as worthy of “praise and honour.”

The remarks come days after Khamenei sharply criticised the United States over what he alleged was its failure to honour a recently signed peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran.

In a message to the Iranian people carried by state media last week, Khamenei said repeated US actions had demonstrated that President Donald Trump’s signature on the June 18 agreement with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was “worthless and invalid.”

He accused Washington of breaching its commitments and said the developments reinforced Iran’s long-held view that the United States was unreliable and unwilling to honour its promises.

Warning against further escalation, Khamenei said any continued US “warmongering” or attempts to increase pressure on Iran would draw what he called “unforgettable lessons” from Iran and the broader resistance front.

His comments come despite the MoU envisaging negotiations between Tehran and Washington within 60 days to work toward a broader agreement, amid continued regional tensions.
