Tamil Nadu has secured investment commitments worth Rs 15,300 crore during Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s visit to London, with the proposed projects expected to generate more than 10,000 jobs across the State. The commitments include memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and a letter of intent covering manufacturing, global capability centres, research and development, engineering and logistics.
The largest commitment has come from Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd, which, along with its UK- and Europe-based joint venture partners, plans to invest around Rs 11,000 crore in Tamil Nadu. The proposed expansion will cover integrated design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and logistics facilities and is expected to create around 7,000 jobs.
UK-based Wilson Power Solutions has committed Rs 300 crore for the next phase of its transformer manufacturing operations in Tiruvallur district. The project is expected to create around 400 jobs and strengthen the State’s advanced power and distribution equipment manufacturing capabilities.
Sweden-based Sigma Technology Group, through its Indian arm Sria Solutions, has signed an MoU to expand its global capability centres in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli, with around 600 high-value jobs planned in embedded systems, electrification and industrial digitalisation.
Ernst & Young is also supporting a Global Capability Centre under a build-operate-transform-transfer model. The facility on Chennai’s Mount-Poonamallee Road is expected to attract around Rs 1,000 crore and create more than 2,000 high-value jobs.
A European automotive components manufacturer has submitted a letter of intent expressing interest in setting up its first manufacturing facility in India in Tamil Nadu, with a proposed investment of Rs 3,000 crore.
Vijay also met Hinduja Group executives, who briefed him on the progress of the group’s investments, including projects covered under a Rs 2,500-crore agreement signed at the Vetri Tamil Nadu Investors’ Summit in August.
During the visit, the Chief Minister invited British and European companies to invest in Tamil Nadu and assured them of government support. State officials also held discussions with companies from aerospace, defence, chemicals, logistics, manufacturing, financial services, retail and legal services.
