Anjanaben Bumbadiya’s rise in para-athletics
Born in Gujarat in 2001, Anjanaben has emerged as one of India’s promising female para-sprinters. She was born with a congenital upper-limb impairment, with one arm shorter than normal.
She is the reigning Khelo India Para Games champion from 2025. At the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, she recorded a personal best of 1:00.04 seconds in the 400m.
Jayanti Nehra’s inspiring journey
Born in Odisha in 1999, Nehra competes in the T47 classification. She suffered severe second-degree burns at the age of one after accidentally falling into an earthen stove, resulting in permanent contractures of her left elbow and hand.
Her talent was identified by school coach Bishnu Prasad Mishra, who enrolled her at the Gurukul Athletic Training Centre in Sakhigopal and trained her free of cost.
Nehra made her mark at the 2018 Asian Para Games, winning silver in the women’s 400m T47 with a time of 59.71 seconds and bronze in the women’s 200m T47 in 27.45 seconds.
She also won gold in the 400m at the 2017 World Junior Para Athletics Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland, earning the World Youth Champion title.
