Cape Town, September 30, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will unveil the schedule for the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup on Thursday, marking the start of the countdown to the 14-team tournament that will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The schedule launch will take place at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) in Cape Town and will be broadcast live in India on JioHotstar and the Star Sports Network from 8:30 p.m. IST.

The tournament will be played from October 2 to November 21, 2027, across 12 venues, with 57 matches scheduled to be played.

The ICC will also open its global ticket ballot alongside the schedule announcement, giving fans an opportunity to apply for tickets through a randomised allocation process where demand exceeds venue capacity.

Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have secured automatic qualification. They are joined by India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh among the teams already assured of places based on the September 30 qualification cut-off.

The remaining four places will be decided through a global qualifier scheduled to be played early next year. Two-time champions West Indies will be among the teams competing for qualification.

The 2027 World Cup could also mark a significant tournament for Indian batting stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have spoken about their ambitions for the event.

Rohit, speaking to JioStar, recalled the experience of winning the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2013 Champions Trophy and the 2024 T20 World Cup, saying he wanted to experience the feeling of winning another World Cup.

“It’ll be great to win the upcoming ODI World Cup. I wouldn’t think about full circle and all that now. Winning a World Cup for India is a special feeling,” Rohit said.

He added that India’s 2024 T20 World Cup triumph had reinforced the importance of winning an ICC title and expressed his desire to experience that feeling again.

Kohli, who was part of India’s 2011 ODI World Cup-winning team, said the 2027 edition would be his final World Cup for India and that winning the trophy would be his primary motivation.

“For me, it’s the last World Cup I’m going to play for India. And that is my motivation,” Kohli said.

He added that he wanted to give his best for the team and described winning the World Cup as the most important objective.

The global ticket ballot will remain open from October 1 to November 21, 2026. Fans can request up to four tickets per match across categories, with allocations determined through a randomised draw when demand exceeds available capacity.
