Punjab Guv Launches ‘Nasha Mukt-Rangla Punjab’ Campaign

Amritsar/Baba Bakala Sahib, December 6, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

The Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh today inaugurated the Nasha Mukt- Rangla Punjab Campaign on the occasion of Guruparab, marking the martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji.

Aligned with the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan a national initiative led by the Ministry of Social Justice, the campaign brings together a collaborative framework involving state governments, educational institutions, social welfare organizations, and local communities. This concerted effort seeks to address drug abuse through awareness drives, community engagement, and grassroots-level programs across the state.

A major highlight of the campaign is the ‘People’s Walk Against Drugs,’ organized in partnership with the Red Cross Society and spearheaded by social worker and writer, Mr. Khushwant Singh. Scheduled from December 7 to December 11, this impactful initiative will mobilize citizens from various walks of life to stand united against the scourge of drug addiction.

The walk will commence on December 10 from the village Beas, the home of legendary runner Sardar Fauja Singh Ji, and culminate in the village of Bathe, Jalandhar district, by evening.

On December 11, participants will proceed from Bathe to the Jang-e-Azadi Memorial in Kartarpur, spreading the message of unity and resilience in the fight against drugs. The Governor also confirmed personal participation in the concluding days of the walk, emphasizing its importance in galvanizing collective action.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor highlighted the indispensable role of women in fostering a drug-free society. “Women are the backbone of every household, and their active involvement can significantly influence the fight against drug addiction,” he stated.

By fostering open communication and trust with their children, women can guide them towards healthier choices and help prevent addictive behaviors. Studies indicate that up to 80% of drug-related issues can be mitigated through the proactive engagement of women in families.

The Governor also drew attention to the root causes of drug addiction, including unemployment stress, academic failures, and emotional challenges faced by adolescents. He urged parents to prioritize building stronger relationships with their children, spend quality time together, and maintain open dialogues to identify and address early signs of distress.

Recognizing the devastating impact of drug abuse on society, the Governor stressed the need for a multi-pronged approach involving both governmental and community efforts. While strict laws and rehabilitation centers play a critical role, grassroots movements led by Panchayats, Anganwadi workers, schools, and self-help groups are equally vital in addressing the crisis at its roots.

Under this campaign the Educational institutions will host awareness campaigns, and sports organizations will be encouraged to mentor and engage youth in constructive activities that promote physical fitness and mental resilience.

The campaign also underscores the urgent need for vigilance in combating the external threats fueling drug abuse in Punjab, particularly along its border with Pakistan. By dismantling local drug networks and enhancing community awareness, Punjab can reclaim its legacy as a vibrant and resilient state.

As the state unites for the Nasha Mukt- Rangla Punjab Campaign, the Governor called upon citizens to actively participate in this mission, reiterating that a drug-free Punjab is essential for the well-being of future generations. The launch of the campaign on the auspicious occasion of Guruparab serves as a beacon of hope and determination to overcome these pressing challenges.

This campaign is a pivotal step in Punjab’s ongoing battle against the pervasive challenge of drug addiction, aiming to restore hope and build a drug-free society.
