Bengaluru, October 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Karnataka Police have said that the investigation into an alleged sting video involving former Chief Minister and Congress Working Committee member Siddaramaiah has not substantiated the allegations portrayed in the recording, describing the video as potentially fabricated and part of a deliberately constructed narrative.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Bengaluru City Police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) Cyber Crime wing said the statements recorded and evidence collected so far did not establish that any incident had occurred in the manner depicted in the video. The allegations against the individuals mentioned in the recording appeared, prima facie, to be false and concocted, the police said.
The investigation, registered as Crime No. 56/2026, has identified and questioned all individuals appearing in the video, with some examined more than once. Police have also recovered the original mobile phone allegedly used to record it and sent the device for forensic examination. The report is awaited.
According to investigators, the video was allegedly recorded in 2023 in connection with an incident said to have occurred in 2011. Police are examining why the recording was made nearly 12 years after the alleged incident and whether it was staged, fabricated or manipulated.
The video was uploaded to YouTube, X and other social media platforms during September and October 2026. Police said anonymous accounts and digital concealment methods, including VPNs, masked IP addresses and spoofed phone numbers, were used to circulate it. Investigators also traced a mobile phone linked to a YouTube upload to a shop in Delhi dealing in used and refurbished devices.
One accused connected with the procurement of the phone was arrested in the National Capital Region on October 24. Police said questioning him yielded significant leads, including possible associations with politically influential individuals based in New Delhi. These alleged links are being examined.
Investigators are probing whether multiple people coordinated the planning, recording, uploading and amplification of the video to malign individuals holding positions of responsibility in Karnataka and generate political controversy.
Notices have been issued to certain individuals for further examination, but their identities have not been disclosed.
Police have appealed to the public and media organisations not to circulate unverified allegations or draw premature conclusions while the investigation remains underway. The forensic report and further inquiries are awaited.
