Mohali/Chandigarh, October 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a boost as Chaudhary Shyam Lal Gujjar, Mohali district president of the Shiromani Akali Dal’s BC Wing, joined the party along with hundreds of associates. Inspired by BJP state vice-president Ranjit Singh Gill, they joined the BJP at an event held in Guda village in the Kharar constituency. Punjab BJP state president Kewal Singh Dhillon welcomed them into the party and assured them of full respect and honour.
Dhillon said Chaudhary Shyam Lal and his associates had taken an excellent decision in the interest of Punjab. He said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the BJP was working to bring every section of society along with the mantra “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas” (Together with all, development for all, trust of all). He added that the growing trust in the party was encouraging people from different communities to join it.
The state BJP president said it was a matter of great joy that members of the Gujjar community were joining the party in large numbers. Describing the community as hardworking and committed to social welfare, he said it had made an important contribution to Punjab’s progress. He added that the entry of Shyam Lal and his associates had further strengthened the BJP.
Dhillon expressed concern over Punjab’s current situation, citing drugs, gangsterism, extortion, murders, the deteriorating law-and-order situation, mounting debt and financial difficulties. He alleged that those who raised their voices against drugs were being targeted in attempts to silence them, while those who exposed the government’s failures faced high-handedness.
He said shootings and murders were taking place in Punjab every day. Referring to the cases of Parminder Singh Jhota of Mansa and Daljit Jeetu, a young man from Bhamme Kalan village, Dhillon claimed that instead of receiving justice, the victims’ families were facing further harassment.
Dhillon said the most pressing priority was to save Punjab’s younger generations. He stressed that if the state’s sons and daughters were not safe, other comforts and facilities had little meaning. Eradicating drugs, he said, must therefore be the top priority.
He said the BJP had pledged to free Punjab from drugs through its “Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra” (Drug-Free Punjab Yatra). He added that, in coordination with campaigns led by the Central Government, the party was working with full commitment towards eliminating drugs by December 31, 2029.
Dhillon said Punjab needed a strong and honest government and claimed that, given the BJP’s record on governance and development, only the Bharatiya Janata Party could resolve the state’s problems. He urged party workers to further strengthen the organisation and take the party’s policies to every section of society.
Those present at the event included BJP state vice-president Ranjit Singh Gill, district president Sanjeev Vashisht, Chaudhary Om Parkash, Chairman of the Haryana Government, and a large number of party leaders and workers.
