Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming epic Ramayana, recently revisited his cherished childhood memories of celebrating Diwali at the iconic R.K. Studio in Mumbai.

The actor appeared on the latest episode of the quiz-based reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, where he recalled his family’s Diwali traditions during a festive special episode.

Sharing his memories, Ranbir said, “Diwali ka matlab khushiyan hain… bachpan se jo Diwali hoti thi, pehle hum R.K. Studio jaate the, wahan ek Lakshmi puja karte the, phir hum meri dadi Shri Krishna Kapoor ko milne jaate the, woh hume mithai deti thi, mujhe paise deti thi jo bahut saare paise the.”

Explaining the family’s tradition, he said their celebrations would begin with a visit to R.K. Studio, where they would perform Lakshmi Puja before meeting his grandmother, Shri Krishna Kapoor, who would offer them sweets and give him money.

Ranbir further recalled that after returning home, the family would perform Lakshmi Puja, while his father would step outside to light firecrackers.

He added, “Jaa ke ghar mein Lakshmi puja karke, papa bahar kuch pataake jalate the, aur phir hum sath mein khana kha ke so jaate the, and this was a perfect Diwali for us.”

Describing these moments as his idea of a perfect Diwali, the actor highlighted how simple family rituals made the festival special and created memories that stayed with him over the years.

Kaun Banega Crorepati airs on Sony Entertainment Television.

Established by legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor in 1948 in Mumbai’s Chembur area, R.K. Studio became an iconic landmark of Hindi cinema. The studio served as the production venue for several classics, including Awaara, Shree 420, Bobby and Satyam Shivam Sundaram.

On September 16, 2017, a major fire broke out on the sets of the television show Super Dancer at the studio.

The Kapoor family subsequently decided to sell the property. In May 2019, Godrej Properties acquired the 2.2-acre site for an undisclosed amount.
