The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Municipal Corporation Inspector Shubham, posted at Zone-B in Ludhiana, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹25,000. The arrest was made as part of the bureau’s ongoing drive against corruption in the state.
According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the action followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Ajit Nagar, Ludhiana.
The complainant alleged that following his father’s death, he and his brothers had submitted documents to the Municipal Corporation’s Zone-B office for transferring their ancestral property into their names. The documents were marked to Inspector Shubham for processing.
According to the complaint, the inspector allegedly demanded ₹25,000 to facilitate the transfer of the ancestral property in the names of the complainant and his brothers.
Unwilling to pay the alleged bribe, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Ludhiana Range. Acting on his complaint, a VB team laid a trap and apprehended the inspector while he was allegedly accepting ₹25,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
The Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station in Ludhiana. Further investigation is underway.
