Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and handed a demerit point for an on-field conduct breach during the ODI against England in Lahore, while the visitors have been fined 15 per cent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that Rauf breached Article 2.2 of its Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers conduct contrary to the spirit of the game.
The incident occurred towards the end of Pakistan’s innings after the 46th over. Rauf, positioned at the non-striker’s end, appealed for a wide before becoming involved in an exchange with England all-rounder Will Jacks. The Pakistan pacer raised his bat during the confrontation and continued arguing despite a warning from umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid. He subsequently brushed past the umpire while moving towards Jacks.
The sanction includes an official reprimand. Rauf’s disciplinary tally has risen to five demerit points following his third offence within a 24-month period.
England were penalised after falling three overs short of the required rate, even after time allowances were taken into account. Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, teams are fined five per cent of their players’ match fees for each over they fail to bowl within the stipulated time.
Rauf and England captain Harry Brook accepted the charges and sanctions proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, avoiding formal hearings.
The disciplinary action followed a dramatic contest in which Pakistan edged England by one wicket. According to the match report, Shadab Khan scored an unbeaten century before combining with Rauf in an unbroken 89-run partnership for the final wicket to secure victory with 17 balls remaining.
The win also secured Pakistan’s place in the ODI tri-series final against Sri Lanka, scheduled for October 31.
