A 49-member group of Pakistani Sikh pilgrims visiting India to pay obeisance at historic Sikh shrines on Monday visited Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar and expressed their devotion and reverence for the Guru. The pilgrims offered prayers at the shrine, seeking spiritual peace and the well-being of all humanity.
During the visit, members of the jatha also met Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami. The SGPC honoured the visiting Sikh pilgrims as a mark of respect and hospitality.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhami said four Sikh jathas travel to Pakistan every year to visit historic Sikh shrines there. He noted that Sikhs living in Pakistan also wish to visit historic gurdwaras in India and pay their respects at places associated with Sikh history.
He said the visiting pilgrims had come to India as a group for the first time, highlighting the importance of facilitating religious travel for Sikh communities on both sides of the border.
Dhami appealed to the governments of India and Pakistan to adopt a liberal approach towards granting visas to Sikh pilgrims from both countries. He said this would enable devotees to visit historic gurdwaras and fulfil their religious aspirations in accordance with their faith.
Those present on the occasion included OSD Satbir Singh Dhami, SGPC Secretary Balwinder Singh Kahluwan, Additional Secretary Bhagwant Singh Dhangerha, Personal Secretary Shahbaz Singh, Deputy Secretary Harbhajan Singh Vakta, General Manager Major Singh, Manager Rajinder Singh Ruby and other officials.
