Guwahati nightclub assault case: Manager detained as police probe alleged stripping, beating of woman

Assam Police have launched an investigation into the alleged assault of a woman inside a nightclub in Guwahati’s Khanapara area, where videos circulating on social media purportedly show her being stripped and beaten by women alleged to be bouncers.

Police have detained the manager of The Locals Cafe and Lounge, where the incident reportedly took place on Friday, while other staff members are being questioned to establish the sequence of events and identify those allegedly involved.

Videos circulating online appear to show a woman lying on the floor without clothes while two women kick and assault her. Several men can also be seen standing nearby. Another video appears to show a woman attempting to intervene before a vehicle blocks the view.

According to preliminary information, the woman was allegedly pushed to the floor and assaulted inside the establishment before being taken from the fourth floor towards an area that appeared to be the club’s parking or basement section.

Police are examining what happened before the alleged assault and whether an altercation between the woman and the club’s bouncers preceded the incident.

DCP East Tabu Ram Pegu said the nightclub manager had been detained for questioning. Police are also examining the available video footage and questioning other employees as part of the investigation.

A security guard has reportedly claimed that an argument began after a female bouncer objected to the woman’s attire and that the woman subsequently allegedly assaulted the bouncer with a bottle. Police have not established these claims, and the circumstances leading to the confrontation remain under investigation.

The identity of the woman shown in the videos has not been established so far.

Investigators are also examining why the woman was allegedly taken from the fourth floor to the lower area and what occurred during that period. Further legal action is expected after police complete questioning and assess the available evidence.

The nightclub management has not issued a detailed public statement on the allegations so far.
