Jaipur, October 1, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Rajasthan Police has issued a cyber fraud advisory warning citizens about a scam in which fraudsters impersonate India Post, Speed Post and courier company representatives to steal sensitive financial information and money.

The advisory was issued by the Cyber Crime Branch (R4C) on the directions of Rajasthan Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma. Additional Director General of Police (Cyber Crime) V.K. Singh said the fraudulent messages are being circulated through SMS, WhatsApp and email, while scammers are also contacting people over phone calls.

According to the advisory, fraudsters typically tell recipients that a parcel, sometimes described as containing government documents or valuable items, has been held because of an incorrect or incomplete address.

Victims are then asked to click on a link and update their address immediately to prevent the parcel from being returned.

The links may lead to fake websites designed to resemble official postal or courier portals. In some cases, scammers also send malicious APK files, which can compromise mobile devices and potentially provide access to sensitive information and phone functions.

After directing victims to the fraudulent website, the scammers may ask them to pay a small amount, such as Rs 10, Rs 25 or Rs 50, for updating the delivery address.

Victims can subsequently be prompted to enter debit or credit card details, net-banking credentials or UPI PINs. Such information can then be misused to carry out unauthorised transactions and withdraw money from bank accounts.

Rajasthan Police advised citizens to track India Post and Speed Post consignments only through the official India Post website, www.indiapost.gov.in, and to carefully verify website addresses before entering any personal or financial information.

The advisory noted that official Indian government websites generally use “.gov.in” or “.nic.in” domains, and urged people to be particularly cautious of URLs that imitate government or courier websites.

Citizens who are unsure about a delivery-related message should contact the concerned organisation through its official customer-care channels. India Post’s official customer-care number is 1800-266-6868.

The police also advised people to check their call-forwarding settings, block suspicious senders, avoid sharing confidential information, refrain from making payments through unverified links and never install applications received from unknown sources.

Anyone who falls victim to cyber fraud or encounters a suspicious attempt should report it immediately by calling the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930.

Rajasthan Police urged citizens not to click on unsolicited links or download unknown files, particularly when messages create a sense of urgency by claiming that a parcel or delivery is at risk of being returned.
