Singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus has opened up about an unexpected concern surrounding her upcoming marriage to drummer Maxx Morando — the possibility of getting the “ick” after tying the knot.
The 33-year-old singer got engaged to Morando, 27, in 2025 after the couple had been dating for six years. Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Cyrus said she recently found herself worrying about how their relationship might change after marriage.
“We’ve been together six years, and I’ve never gotten the ick. All of a sudden I got in my head, I was like, ‘Oh my God, we’re about to get married. What if I get the ick?’” she said.
Cyrus said she even asked Morando what they would do if one of them developed such feelings after getting married. According to the singer, his response was to deal with it rather than overreact.
She recalled him telling her that the “ick” was something associated with childhood and that they should simply work through it and move on.
Cyrus also revealed that Morando later did something that briefly gave her the feeling she had been worried about. “He something that icked me for a minute. I was like, ‘Don’t ever do that again. It gave me the ick,’” she said.
The singer acknowledged that relationship quirks are not limited to her partner and admitted that she has behaviours that can frustrate Morando as well. Cyrus said she can become difficult when she is not in control of a situation.
Revealing what Morando finds irritating about her, she said he had described her as a “brat” — something she agreed with.
“He said, ‘When you’re a brat’, which is so true. I’m so icky when I’m a brat,” Cyrus said.
Despite those occasional frustrations, Cyrus said the qualities they appreciate in each other matter far more. She also spoke about enjoying the fact that she does not always have to be in charge at home, describing it as a sense of relief.
“It’s like a sense of relief that I can actually soften into,” she said, adding jokingly that Morando might disagree with her characterisation of who is in charge, saying they are both the boss.
