Veteran actor Anupam Kher has reflected on his journey from a small-town boy in Shimla to receiving a special honour in Las Vegas, with September 10 being observed as “Anupam Kher Day” in the entertainment capital.
Kher took to Instagram to recall the recognition, which was bestowed on him 11 years ago. Despite receiving numerous awards and honours during his decades-long career, he said the Las Vegas recognition continues to hold a special place in his heart.
“For a small-town boy from Shimla to have September 10 declared as ‘Anupam Kher Day’ in Las Vegas — the city of entertainment — feels almost unbelievable!” Kher wrote while sharing a video.
The actor credited the Indian film industry for giving him an identity, a platform and the opportunity to build a career that has spanned several decades across Hindi cinema and international projects.
“The full credit for this honour belongs to the Indian film industry, which gave me an identity, a platform and the opportunity to reach this level. I remain deeply grateful to Indian cinema and to everyone who has been part of my journey,” he said.
Reflecting on the emotional significance of the recognition, Kher added, “Some honours don’t merely decorate your shelf — they find a permanent place in your heart. Jai Ho.”
On the professional front, Kher is currently taking his play “Jaane Pehchaane Anjaane” to audiences across the US and Canada.
He has also recently announced another major milestone, revealing that he will appear in his landmark 555th film. The actor has kept details of the project under wraps, promising to share more at the appropriate time.
“Some things are better kept close to the heart for a little while,” Kher said, adding that he was enjoying the suspense surrounding the announcement.
