The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully conducted a flight acceptance hot test of its CE20 cryogenic engine at an uprated thrust of 220 kN, marking another key milestone ahead of an upcoming LVM3 mission.
The test was conducted on September 9 at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu, the space agency said.
The CE20 engine tested is designated for the C32 upper stage of the upcoming LVM3 mission. The 220 kN test represents the engine’s uprated thrust condition and was aimed at validating its performance before its flight assignment.
“Flight acceptance hot test of CE20 cryogenic engine earmarked for the C32 upper stage of upcoming LVM3 mission at uprated thrust conditions of 220kN is successfully carried out at ISRO Propulsion Complex, Mahendragiri on September 09, 2026,” ISRO said in a post on X.
During the same test, ISRO also successfully demonstrated the performance of the LOX Tank Pressurization Module (LTPM) intended for C32 stages being developed for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight missions.
The successful test adds to ISRO’s ongoing efforts to develop and qualify advanced propulsion systems and launch vehicles as India expands its space programme. The LVM3 is a key launch vehicle for heavier missions and has an important role in the country’s human spaceflight programme.
ISRO’s broader programme includes next-generation launch systems, human spaceflight, lunar and planetary exploration and the planned Bharatiya Antariksh Station.
The space agency has also been supporting the expansion of India’s space ecosystem through reforms aimed at greater participation by private industry, startups and academia, while ISRO increasingly focuses on advanced research, frontier technologies and complex national missions.
