Content creator and reality television personality Abhishek Malhan, who is set to join Roadies: Rebirth as a Gang Leader, said intense competition on a reality show should not affect the personal bonds mentors share away from the cameras.
Speaking about his equation with fellow Gang Leader Prince Narula, Abhishek said a mentor’s primary focus during the competition is to help their contestant win, but the rivalry should remain limited to the show.
“I think the bond that I share with him (Prince Narula) is much stronger than anything in this world. But honestly, when we get into a reality show and as a mentor, your only goal is to make your contestant win,” Abhishek told IANS when asked whether competing against Prince could affect their relationship.
He added that mentors could take strong competitive decisions during the show, but those moments should not spill over into their personal relationships.
“What happens in the moment for the show should always stay in that moment and for the show. And when the camera cuts, I think the bonds that we share off camera should always be intact,” he said.
“They shouldn’t be distorted or finished. That’s how I feel. And we are hoping for the best,” Abhishek added.
This season will feature six Gang Leaders — Nikhil Chinapa, Neha Dhupia, Prince Narula, Abhishek Malhan, Bani J and Baseer Ali.
Popularly known as “Fukra Insaan”, Abhishek rose to fame through his YouTube content and later participated in reality shows including Bigg Boss OTT, Playground Season 3 and Temptation Island India.
Roadies, which began with a focus on travel, tasks and contestants’ experiences across India, evolved into a more competitive format after MTV took over from the third season. The show subsequently introduced twists including wildcard selection through Battleground and Graveyard, while advantage tasks were added from the fifth season.
Each season features a distinct theme, tasks, vote-outs and eliminations, with the contestant who survives the challenges ultimately being crowned the Ultimate Roadie in the finale.
