The Delhi Police have issued a Look-Out Circular (LOC) against building owner Hariram Bansal following the fatal collapse of a five-storey structure in Satya Niketan, as the investigation into the incident and alleged lapses continues.
Police registered an FIR against Bansal and others on Sunday in connection with the collapse. According to officials, the building, known as ‘Hostel Daze’, was being operated as a boys’ paying guest (PG) accommodation, with renovation work allegedly underway in the basement when the structure suddenly collapsed.
Several students were staying at the premises when the incident occurred, and a number of students from Delhi University colleges were reportedly residing in PG accommodations in the area. At least six people have died, while five others have been rescued. Rescue teams continued searching through the debris for anyone who may still be trapped.
An adjacent building was also reported to have collapsed, raising further concerns over the structural safety of buildings in the locality.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revisited the site on Monday morning to review the rescue operations and safety measures. She said strict action would be taken against Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials if any negligence or lapses were established.
The Chief Minister’s Office said directives had also been issued for the immediate sealing of illegal five-storey buildings across Delhi. Intensive inspections of nearby PGs and buildings have been ordered, with sealing action to follow if violations are found.
Meanwhile, a petition concerning the Satya Niketan collapse has been filed before the Delhi High Court, seeking judicial intervention over the incident and broader safety concerns. The High Court has assured that the petition will be heard on Monday.
