India captain Harmanpreet Kaur has urged her team to carry its momentum into the knockout stage of the Women’s Asia Cup, stressing that the next two matches will be crucial and that players must continue trusting the plans that have worked during the league phase.
“The next two games are very important for us. One game at a time; the next game is very important,” Harmanpreet said in a video shared by the BCCI on Monday.
She emphasised the need for the team to maintain its confidence and approach the knockout matches with the same clarity and consistency displayed during the league stage.
“Momentum is very important now. Trusting ourselves, trusting our plans and just going the way we have been batting and bowling during the league stage,” she added.
Harmanpreet highlighted the contributions from different members of the squad throughout the tournament. She praised Shafali Verma’s aggressive batting in the opening game and Smriti Mandhana’s century in the second match, while also lauding the bowlers for stepping up in the latest outing.
“Our bowlers took the challenge. They just need to trust their plans and trust themselves and execute whenever the team needs it. Good overall performance for everyone,” she said.
With the semifinals and final now ahead, Harmanpreet called for continued hard work and urged the players to focus on one match at a time rather than looking too far ahead.
Reflecting on her own journey, the India captain said she never expected to come this far and credited her teammates, the BCCI, support staff and family for helping her reach this stage.
“They have been my biggest strength. And hopefully keep doing the hard work for many more years and keep working hard whenever the team needs,” she said.
