Actress Shriya Pilgaonkar has defended her father, veteran actor-filmmaker Sachin Pilgaonkar, amid the trolling he has faced on social media, saying the negativity online does not reflect the love they experience in real life.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Shriya said people often fail to appreciate the depth and breadth of experience her father has gained during more than six decades in the film industry.
“He has more than 60 years of experience in the film industry and people are just not aware of the range and scale of experiences he has,” Shriya said.
She noted that when someone with such extensive experience is invited to share his perspective, discussing his journey and experiences is natural. She also referred to her father’s conversations about his life during various interviews.
“In a setup where somebody is asked, of course you are going to share your experiences. I feel like the love is so much that there is no space for negativity,” she said.
Shriya also highlighted what she described as a contradiction in showbiz, where people who troll celebrities online may approach them for photographs in person.
“This is the nature of our showbiz that people who sometimes troll, are the same people come and click photos,” she said.
The actress said she and her family remain positive and distinguish between online chatter and their experiences in the real world.
“When we are out there in real life, we only experience love. So all of this virtual or internet chatter is something that doesn’t feel real,” she said.
Shriya added that negative comments often say more about those making them than about the people being targeted. She also suggested that some people may find it difficult to see others succeed or be happy.
Her comments come amid continued trolling of Sachin Pilgaonkar following interviews in which the Marathi veteran has spoken about his career and personal experiences.
Meanwhile, Shriya is gearing up for her upcoming film Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan. The film stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, with Akshay playing a psychotic antagonist. Boman Irani and Saiyami Kher also feature in important roles.
