US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Sunday met Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla and praised his journey as an example of growing cooperation between the two countries in space exploration.
Gor said Shukla’s experience, from training at NASA to piloting Axiom Space’s Ax-4 mission, highlighted the strength of US-India collaboration in the space sector.
“Enjoyed meeting Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian astronaut to travel to the International Space Station. From training at NASA to piloting Axiom Space’s Ax-4 mission, his journey showcases US-India space cooperation at its best,” Gor said in a post on X.
The US envoy also met Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in Bengaluru and said bilateral ties were gaining momentum in the state across space technology, artificial intelligence and trade.
Gor said initiatives such as Pax Silica and TRUST were creating new opportunities for American and Indian industries.
His remarks come amid expanding cooperation between the two countries in defence and advanced technology.
Last week, Gor described the proposed co-production of the Javelin All Up Round (AUR) in India as a “major step forward” for the US-India defence partnership.
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV), comprising Raytheon, an RTX business, and Lockheed Martin, have signed an MoU for Javelin AUR co-production in India.
According to Lockheed Martin, TASL was selected as the JJV’s prime partner for future in-country co-production efforts following an evaluation of multiple companies based on their capabilities and expertise.
Gor said the initiative would create opportunities for US companies, strengthen the American defence-industrial base and enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities.
