Seven people, including four members of a Bengaluru family returning from Tirupati, were killed in two separate road accidents in Karnataka’s Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts on Monday, police said.
In the first accident, four pilgrims from Bengaluru died after their car reportedly lost control and overturned near Dodda Kari village in KGF taluk of Kolar district on the Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway.
The deceased were identified as Sharadamma, 70, Deekshita, 25, Devendra Kumar, 41, and Jishnu, 13, all residents of Vidyaranyapura in Bengaluru. The family had travelled to Tirupati for darshan at the Lord Venkateswara temple and was returning to Bengaluru when the accident occurred.
According to police, the Toyota car lost control, hit the median and overturned, killing all four occupants on the spot.
Three other passengers — Vikas, Neethu and Advika — sustained injuries and were shifted to Bangarpet Government Hospital for treatment. A case has been registered at Bethamangala Police Station and further investigation is underway.
In a separate accident in neighbouring Chikkaballapur district, three women were killed after an Omni car carrying agricultural labourers collided with a mini goods vehicle near Kothanur Gate in Shidlaghatta taluk.
The vehicle was carrying 10 labourers from Mallikarjunapura village to Hujuguru village for flower harvesting. It was being driven by a man identified as Ramachandrappa.
Three women from Mallikarjunapura died on the spot, while several others were injured and taken to Shidlaghatta Taluk Hospital.
A case has been registered at Shidlaghatta Rural Police Station. The two accidents together claimed seven lives and left several people injured.
