Fashion designer Masaba Gupta has praised actress Bipasha Basu for her athletic physique and strong screen presence, while appearing to take a subtle swipe at an old remark made by actress Mrunal Thakur about the ‘Race’ star.
Masaba shared a picture of Bipasha on the cover of Elle India on her Instagram Stories on Sunday and expressed her happiness at seeing the actress featured on the magazine cover.
Calling Bipasha one of the “OGs”, Masaba said she believed there would not be another actress like her, adding that the industry was increasingly dominated by what she described as “cookie cutter” templates.
Masaba also specifically praised Bipasha’s muscular and athletic physique, saying she admired the fitness standard the actress had set and welcomed her return to the spotlight.
Her comments appeared to reference remarks made by Mrunal Thakur during a media interaction in 2012, when the actress had compared herself favourably with the “muscular” Bipasha. The old clip resurfaced on social media last year, prompting renewed discussion about Bipasha’s image and fitness.
Mrunal subsequently apologised for her comments, acknowledging that she had said “many silly things” as a teenager and that her words could have caused hurt. She clarified that she had not intended to body-shame Bipasha and described the comments as playful banter that had gone too far.
Mrunal also said that with time she had learned to appreciate that beauty comes in different forms.
Masaba’s latest praise for Bipasha comes as the actress continues to receive attention for her fitness-focused image and enduring popularity in the Hindi film industry.
