The United States is open to Indian space startups and American investors are closely watching the sector, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said on Monday as he highlighted growing cooperation between the two countries in space exploration.
Speaking at Bengaluru Space Expo 2026, Gor said NASA had officially invited the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to join the US Moon base programme.
“NASA has officially invited ISRO to join us in the Moon base program. Make no mistake. We are going back to the Moon and we want India by our side on the lunar surface,” the US envoy said.
Addressing Indian space entrepreneurs, Gor said the American market was open to them and that US investors were watching developments in India’s space sector.
“To every Indian space entrepreneur in this room, the American market is open to you. Our investors are watching you. Our ecosystems welcome you,” he said.
Gor said the US-India space partnership was undergoing a significant transformation through the ninth US-India Civil Space Joint Working Group.
He said the discussions had moved the relationship beyond conventional cooperation towards joint development and innovation.
“Our partnership is no longer just about cooperation. It is about co-creation. We are no longer just sharing data; we are co-designing instruments, co-funding startups, and co-authoring the future of human discovery,” he said.
The ambassador also described space as an increasingly important driver of the global economy, powering navigation, communications, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing.
“Space is no longer a luxury for national pride,” Gor said, describing it instead as an engine of the 21st-century global economy.
Earlier on Monday, Gor said he had discussed expanding opportunities for American businesses in India and strengthening economic ties between the two countries during a meeting with Amazon executives.
“American innovation is a powerful force around the world,” he said in a post on X, referring to discussions on Amazon’s India footprint and opportunities for US businesses.
On Sunday, Gor also highlighted the broader economic partnership between India and the US, saying the relationship was driving innovation, expanding investment and strengthening critical supply chains across South India.
